In 1921, serious anti-Jewish rioting broke out in Jaffa, largely due to exponential growth in the numbers of Jewish immigrants. Many Jewish residents chose to leave Jaffa, due to this unrest and settled in Tel Aviv. By 1926, Tel Aviv’s population had grown to 40,000, and its first town hall was constructed; by the mid-1930s, more than 100,000 people lived in Tel Aviv.
