Phnom Penh has plenty to occupy visitors and the major attractions are based around some of the city's finest temples and the Royal Palace. The Silver Pagoda is perhaps the most famous of the sights here and shouldn't be missed with its remarkable 5,000 silver tiles and Buddha decorated with 9,000 diamonds. Independence Monument was built in the late 1950s to celebrate Cambodia's independence from France. The peak is crowned with Khmer Nagas and is not dissimilar to some of the Angkor styles; it is particularly impressive here at night.
